A warm welcome
If you’re friendly, determined and eager to do a great job, we’ll give you all the support you need for a great future with us. Our Engineers play a vital role – even more so during the current pandemic. We continue to be open for business and serving our Customers every day following our safe systems of work procedures. And because you take care of our Customers, we’ll take care of you.
Our response to COVID-19
We’re proud to be able to continue to serve our Customers at this time and we are continuing to recruit for directly employed Engineers and Contractors for immediate start in a number of locations.
Across HomeServe, all our People remain working on full pay, we have not furloughed anyone. HomeServe remains a strong profitable business.
The Health and Safety of all our People and our Customers is our top priority. We are following all government guidance to ensure we minimise the risk for all of our People. We have taken significant precautions to ensure that all of our frontline staff have the equipment and resources they need to do their jobs while maintaining their safety and also keeping our Customers safe. We do this by having and operating safe systems of work protocols. If you have any questions about how we are managing the COVID-19 situation, please do raise these during the recruitment process and we will be happy to respond.
We have the ability to run the assessment and selection process for our vacancies remotely, which means you won’t need to attend a selection process in person while restrictions remain in place. Our assessments will take place over the phone and through video calls. Don’t worry, we’ll tell you exactly how this will work and guide you through each step.

You’ll have every opportunity to progress your career if you want to. Whether that’s by completing additional training, regular career conversations with your manager or having the opportunity to broaden your skills and experience. At HomeServe over 70% of our managerial positions are filled internally, something we’re really proud about.
Working together as a team
Togetherness is important to us. Before COVID-19, we often had team events, Breakfast Meetings, Engineer Roadshows and more! We are still having Breakfast Meetings (albeit virtually!) and we hope to be running face to face events soon!
I joined HomeServe as it is a professional company with a good reputation. I enjoy going out and helping the customers, there is a can-do attitude within the team and the management is supportive. Since joining HomeServe I have been able to increase my current skill set along with having a good work life balance.

Got a question?
Here are some of our most frequently-asked questions – take a look before you apply.
Are the directly employed Engineer vacancies full time?
Yes, they are full time.
If I'm successful when can I expect to start?
If you are successful through the recruitment process, we will make you an offer which will be conditional on passing our pre-employment checks (DBS, Credit, Right to Work, DVLA and Reference checks). These can take up to 4 weeks to complete, so you should expect a start date very soon after that.
What is a Trust Pay allowance?
We provide a Trust Pay allowance for our Plumbing and Drainage Engineers. We don’t run incentive schemes in our Field Operations, instead we trust our People to do the right thing for our Customers in the interactions they have with them. In return we provide a Trust Pay allowance, paid monthly. This is in addition to basic salary.
Where will I be working?
As an Engineer you will be based within a geographical location around your home postcode. We will aim to keep you working within this region, however, you may be asked to travel to different areas across the UK depending upon Customer demand.
Do you provide a location allowance?
For some of our locations, mainly in the south of the country, we offer an annual location allowance (paid monthly) of between £1,000 to £3,500 which may be applicable depending upon your home postcode.
Will I be provided with all the equipment I need to do the job?
Yes, we’ll provide you with everything you need to do the job. This includes a fully-stocked branded van, all tools, a tablet and mobile phone; as well as uniform and all of the required PPE to do your job safely.
How many hours a week will I work?
You will work 40 hours per week which will cover a variety of shift patterns. We can provide more information at the telephone interview as these vary depending upon where you live.
Do I have to work weekends?
Yes, our Plumbing and Drainage Engineers are required to work weekends. Depending upon the area, the pattern of this can change – we can provide more information at the telephone interview.
How far in advance do I get my rota?
As a Plumbing or Drainage Engineer, you’ll get your 6-month rota at least 4 weeks in advance, to allow you time to plan.
What is my holiday allowance?
You’ll have 30 days’ paid holiday in each complete holiday year. This includes all recognised UK public holidays, although you may be rostered to work these. This will increase annually by 1 day each year up to a maximum of 33 days.
We also operate an annual holiday ‘buy and sell’ scheme where you can buy, sell or carry forward up to 5 days holiday.
When do I get paid?
Your salary will be paid on the 28th of each month.
Will I have to work stand-by or ‘on call’?
Our Plumbing Engineers work a stand-by Rota. When working the stand-by you will receive a stand-by payment, regardless of whether you are called on to work. When called out, hours are paid at the recognised overtime rate.
Will I be expected to go to work during COVID-19?
We carefully continue to monitor advice and guidance issued by the Government. To date the vast majority of our Engineers are able to attend Customers’ properties to complete jobs providing they follow all our safe systems at work protocols. If you are classed as clinically vulnerable or clinically extremely vulnerable, please make this known to us during the recruitment process so that we can look to accommodate any specific restrictions or requirements that may apply to you.
How quickly will I hear if my application has been successful or not?
We aim to respond to applications as soon as we possibly can but please allow up to 2 weeks for a response to your application.
You don’t have a vacancy in my current location, can I still be considered for the future?
